Saving Private Ryan. I went to the theater when that first came out and it is now my all time favorite movie, a place that Star Wars sat in most of
my life. I first saw that movie, I was blown away. Many people screamed of the gore, and others talked of how realistic it was. As a movie buff,
yes this stuck out in my head. But the realism of it showed me what men had to go through for the protection of our freedom. Not to mention the
freedom of other countries. The things that happened to men that I don't know if I could do, and I hope I wouldn't. And touched on the fact
that some of other countries need our help. I sometimes wonder...if we get like, a story I heard on the new awhile back. Somewhere in NY a man
was beating his wife or gf in a subway. And grabbed her by the hair and started dragging her through the subway amongst a crowd of people. She
screamed for help, and people watched and did nothing, her pleas going unanswered. She was dragged a long way as I understand, until a woman finally
punched him in the mouth apparently and brought him down. We generally have peaceful lives, I don't know how I would respond in such situations.
I won't get all high and mighty about that. I always felt it was better not to brag what we would do in hypothetical scenarios, because it could happen
and we end up looking like fools. I know for loved ones I would do something. But...It is a matter of not wanting to get involved with something, that
doesn't concern us, not wanting to stir up more trouble, or have trouble look directly at us. Just leave it alone because it isn't my problem sort of mentality.
In order not to cause problems for ourselves. I often wonder if we are getting this way with our freedom. Keep to ourselves, let others deal with their
problems, we finally solved ours lets leave well enough alone. Other people need help sometimes, this I realized. I hate war, wish it never happened,
but someone told me, not everyone is going to sit down and talk peacefully, and there is only one thing they will listen to. I have family in the armed
forces and am proud of them, and what they stand for. So on many different levels, try to remember what the 4th of July stands for. Our freedom, and our people
fighting for others' freedom. And let's not forget what it took to get ours.
